Thoong
is a Designer & Ilustrator based in Nanaimo, BC.
My name is Joe Thoong and I'm a 4th year graphic design student at Vancouver Island University. I grew up in Chinese takeout restaurants and from my time in school as well as my time working as a fourteen-year-old waiter I've been learning and developing my beliefs on design. A product needs to be edible (usable). Having all of your ingredients prepared first (strategy & research) is required for creativity. And above all else, if you have a racist customer, kick them out.

A: I was born at St Joseph's Hospital in Courtenay, Canada. My parents named me after the hospital, but they spoke little to no English. When they wrote down my name, they didn't realize that the hospital's name had an apostrophe S.
Joseph is one of the most common names one could have. The apostrophe S in a way has given character and life to my name. I'm passionate with how design can make the mundane extraordinary. Much like my name has come to symbolize.
